Born in 1953, Pierre Vasseur very early feels a real passion for the radio and sound. With Pierre Schaeffer, his revealed passion awakens the impulse for research and creation. Engineer at first, he then studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris attending the course of composition and research given by Pierre Schaeffer, Guy Reibel, and later at the Centre Acanthes with Mauricio Kagel. At the same time, he attends trombone lessons given by Guy Destanques and Albert Mangelsdorff. He carries on with his work for development of digital techniques on computer at the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (G.R.M.) in Paris and approaches film music and the sound / image link with Alain Lacombe, a music consultant for the Gaumont Company. From 1979 to 1982, he starts his career as a trombone player within jazz bands and creation groups : Partiels and Apertus in Paris. He composes : La déformation du beau, an electroacoustic music, Forme/s for piano, horn, trombone and tape, Bonnes intentions for a various number of musicians and PPV ? for tape, a transformation set and the singer Anne Gilbert, he since then collaborates with in his studies on the voice and its numerous facets. He then turns towards and specializes in shows so as to use the concepts worked out when he was doing personal researches in order to establish the basis of the axes of a "musical dramatic art", a symbiosis of inner time sensed by the composer and outer time, the one of the performance. In 1983 in Lille, he sets up the FREE WAY MUSIQUE studio for the production and creation of original musics for : theatre, dance, cinema, fine arts, video and event display with the Pyroscénie Jean-Claude Sevestre Company. The musics composed by Pierre Vasseur are to be found in the fields of art and creation. More than eighty original compositions are thus being performed in the whole Nord Pas-de-Calais region, in France, in tours on the Scènes Nationales, in Europe, in the United States. Presently his works are performed about two hundred times a year. Creations 1983 He composes Métamorphoses for voice, an electroacoustic set and slides, played during the TEMPO 83 tour in the Nord Pas-de-Calais region. As the plastic work of Annette Messager appeals to him, he decides to write the music of the video film entitled : Les Chimères dAnnette Messager. Drawing his inspiration from "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" by Richard Bach, he conceives the music of the choreographic show of the Gérard Philippe Company, Désirs doiseaux, in Calais. 1984 Commissioned by the Festival de la Côte dOpale, Transparescences is drawn, calculated on the UPIC, a composing machine developed by the CEMAmu and Iannis Xénakis. A short opera project. La Loira, for one solo voice and tape based on a libretto by Frédérique Joseph is getting started. Four extracts are composed and sung by Anne Gilbert. The show entitled Der Tribun, text and music written by Mauricio Kagel, is conceived with the Theatre Ensemble du Nord ; Pierre Vasseur conducts the orchestra. 1985 Gigi Caciuléanu appeals to him for the musical elements of his choreography : Un train peut en cacher un autre. Voix venteuses is conceived in collaboration with the visual artist Michel Sohier and the actor Cyril Robichez. 1986 Using the studio recordings done with Anne Gilbert, he conceives La voie des voix. During the National Symposium : Musique et Handicaps, Musique et Perspectives de soins, Culture et santé, Dailleurs, a musical creation which recreates the sound universe in the womb, is brought in space and light by Jacky Lautem. He composes for the new choreography News by Gigi Caciuléanu and the Théâtre Chorégraphique de Rennes. Then, he writes the music of the video film : Chair de sculpture, a portrait of Pierre Mercier, a sculptor and photographer. Creation of En souffrance, written by Michèle Foucher, directed by Yves Brulois with the Théâtre Ensemble du Nord. 1987 He meets the Director Gérard Courant (Monsieur Cinématon) and Gérard Titus Carmel for a film. He records the drawings of the visual artist during the making of the painting entitled Varia n°12 of the Chancay series and then composes Lacertae created at the Centre Culturel Français in Warsaw. Jean-Luc Godard contacts him for musical elements, edited on King Lear, film produced by CANON USA. 1988 Fairbanks is conceived for prepared piano, two pianists, and L'IDOLE written by Cesare Pavèse, directed by Yves Brulois, coproduced by the Théâtre National La Salamandre. 1989 A year of technical studies, setting up of the new studio FREE WAY MUSIQUE in Mons en-Pévèle. Calculation, construction and testing of a listening system with height horns from the deep low register to the higher frequencies. Main system of the studio, these listenings enable him to set up a library of nine thousand original sound samples. However a show was given that year : Mémoire dun homme du peuple, after «Violences à Vichy» by Bernard Chartreux with the Théâtre Ensemble du Nord, coproduced by the C.A.C. Le Moulin du Roc in Niort, the Théâtre du Merlan in Marseille and the Aéronef in Lille. 1990 He meets Claire Dancoisne and starts collaborating with the Théâtre La Licorne and for the first time conceives a play entitled La tentation de Saint Antoine, written by Flaubert. In parallel, he writes : Dans le cristal de la nuit, a state commissioned work for orchestra, electrodigital set, reciting and singing voices ; this work in created for the 4ème Rencontre de Musiques Contemporaines de Poitiers. The season ends with Ailes de Cendres, choreographed by Christine Burgos. 1991 With the author Daniel Lemahieu, the stage designer Gilone Brun, he works on La Voix de son maître at the Rose des Vents in Villeneuve dAscq. As a wandering show, Le sens caché, a state commissioned work, is conceived within the Picasso exhibition : UNE NOUVELLE DATION. In this work, North American sound elements recorded in New-York City are set as a counterpoint to Picasso's paintings. 1992 Project with three famous accordionists : Marcel Azzola, Marc Perrone and Casilda Rodriguez, three different writings are worked out, in three different styles : a jazz version, a traditional one and a contemporary one for the same show, Laccordéon dans les airs. Then comes a lasting connivance with the New York artist Patrice Caire and the composition of elements for video installations : Neither warp nor woof exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum in New York. On a coproduction with (la Métaphore) Théâtre National, he works for two shows : Candide, written by Voltaire, directed by Claire Dancoisne and Méduse scène de naufrage, written by Jacques Henric, directed by Paul Laurent ; on the latter show he meets the computer graphics artist Eve Ramboz to work out the music / image link. 1993 He finally makes an old idea come true, paying tribute to Nicolas de Staël's work by composing Purple frame at the ZKM in Karlsruhe on digital instruments created by Pierre Dutilleux. A new video installation conceived with Patrice Caire is performed for the seventy-eighth scientific Assembly of the Philips Medical Systems in Chicago : Central Artificial Injected Remote Entity. Misère, from «Le Poirier de Misère» a Flemish tale by Charles Dheullin is coproduced by the Théâtre de la Marionnette in Paris and Le Channel, Scène Nationale in Calais. 1994 With the Centre Dramatique National Jeunes Publics, Le Grand Bleu, he composes the music of Graines de satellites. Using a text written by Michel del Castillo, «La Guitare», Jacky Lautem directs Linda, a state commissioned work ant tribute to Jimmy Hendrix, for : clarinet, cello, percussions, electric guitar, bass guitar, voices and tape. A project of virtual reality and 3D sound, C.A.I.R.E. Cyberhead comes into being in San Francisco, then in Seattle, including the following principal collaborators : Silicon Graphics, SRI international, Colossal Pictures. Within the events organised for the official opening of the Channel Tunnel : «Les sept voyages d'Abel Priscott», Le bateau dombres, a night show following the current, is conceived. 1995 In a coproduction by Claude Buchevald and Gilone Brun, Vous qui habitez le temps is conceived from a text written by Valère Novarina, in Paris and toured throughout France. Adapted from a short story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Un Monsieur très vieux avec des ailes immenses is directed by Claire Dancoisne. 1996 A new collaboration with the director Yves Brulois for Les Autres, written by Jean-Claude Grumberg. The year is devoted to programming a configuration : aid system for composition at the studio FREE WAY MUSIQUE. 1997 Claude Magne, a choreographer, joins forces with him on the idea of the project Aqua[2]O, choreographic poems in three parts for which he composes the music. A very short and light show of thirty-five minutes : Macbêtes, les Nuits tragiques written by Arthur Lefebvre and created by the Théâtre La Licorne, is performed more than two hundred times during the year of its creation. 1998 A symphonic writing is developed for the creation of Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, coproduced by the Rose des Vents, the Channel, Culture Commune and the Théâtre Arc-en-ciel. The meeting with François Lazaro materializes with Dormir, conceived by the company Clastic Théâtre with the Théâtre Rutebeuf in Clichy and the Théâtre de la Marionnette in Paris. New Projects : For the Compagnie Robinson, a company associated with the Opéra de Bordeaux, two creations : I et Ibis about the myth of Icarus. Les cendres et les lampions, written by Noëlle Renaude with the actors of the Theâtre La Licorne and Mémoire quotidienne written by Michel Quint, directed by Gervais Robin.
