Imminence is the result of a collaborative project by Ivana Franke and two Finnish architects, Tommi Grönlund and Petteri Nisunen.
Water flows very slowly through a 100 meters long glass tube hanging from the ceiling which wriggles its way through the main room of the gallery and ends up near the Gallery entrance. The long glass tube is made of 1,5 m long parts joined by plastic elbow connectors into a three-dimensional structure in x,y,z grid. The transparent fragile material and geometrical form of the work follow interior of the space and activate its emptiness. While partly invisible, the lines reveal their presence by reflections from the glossy glass surface. For its fragility and occasional visual disappearance the installation requires careful observation and slow walking pace.
It was initially created for the unrenovated area ot the MMSU - Rijeka Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (curator : Sabina Salamon), as part of Rijeka 2020 - European Capital of Culture. The iteration of the installation shown in Anhava Gallery is transformed by the new space.
